Simple Guide to Content Marketing and SEO

Today, there are tons of businesses that are venturing online and hoping to reap huge profits. However, what many of them fail to understand is that you cannot just launch an online website and wait for traffic and sales to come in. You need to make your website known to visitors, and two of the best ways to do just that are content marketing and search engine optimisation (SEO). Let’s look at each of them below.

Content Marketing
Content Marketing is the use of textual or image marketing in which focus is emphasized on the relevant and valuable content. The purpose of content marketing is to attain a definite audience that clicks and buys. Content marketing is said to promote profitable customer action.

So what type of content can you create for your website? The first type is articles. You can write valuable articles such as listicles of about five hundred to two thousand words, which can be posted on your website’s blog or pages. These articles should contain relevant target keywords that make up about one percent of the article length, as well as relevant images. You can further optimise the article by adding keywords in the title, slug and alternate text image, and placing inbound and outbound links. Notwithstanding, the article should be easy to read, and contain more active rather than passive sentences.

Another type of content you can create are videos. These videos should be informative, interesting and engaging, and run for about five to ten minutes long. You can then post them on video sharing sites like Youtube and social media channels like Facebook and Instagram. Remember to include links back to your site.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
SEO is a technique to increase your website’s visibility on search engines like Google, and get it ranked for specific types of keywords. There are mainly two components to SEO, which are onsite SEO and offsite SEO.

Onsite SEO involves the optimisation of various components of your website. These include, but not limited to, the title tags, descriptions, header tags, alternate image tags, sitemap, loading speed, and more. On top of that, you should link your articles within the website pages, so that visitors to your site go from one to another, lengthening their time of stay within your website.

Offsite SEO, on the other hand, involves the process of building backlinks from high authority sites. You can approach the owners of these sites and ask them if you can do guest posts on their blogs with backlinks to your site. Wherever possible, you should link the content of your site with other related ones from other pages that are already better positioned. This will improve your website’s ranking and bring traffic to your content. However, avoid linking to any type of external page without considering details such as the language (if you do it with a page whose text is in a different language than the one you use on your site, Google will penalize you).

You can do SEO on your website by yourself, but this will take a lot of time and effort. A better alternative will be to engage an SEO Singapore company to do it for you. One prime example is NightOwl, with various years of experience in the SEO and content marketing fields.
